Can Thailand Keep Counting On Tourism’s ‘Resilience’?

Thailand is regarded as a well known tourist destination around the world and over the past few years the country has proven to bounce back from the many unfortunate events that might otherwise cause them difficulty in attaining proper revenue from their tourism. Even though now the country is passing through some challenges from the recent tragic incidents, the government is confident of a speedy recovery with regards to a their tourism industry.

  • Thailand is facing a loss of $294 million in tourism revenues in the coming months.
  • Nonetheless, the kingdom is going ahead with a doubling of the Visa on Arrival fee to 2,000 baht ($58) which the Thai Cabinet had approved in January.
  • Major tourism companies are not revising their budgets after the latest crisis.

“That’s really small change for a destination that drew nearly 30 million visitors last year and is targeting 32 million arrivals and $69 billion in tourism revenues this year.”
