Chiang Mai Hoteliers face price war woe

In Chiang Mai,Thailand the number of hotel bookings during their low season may cause prices to be lowered. The Thai Hotels Association (THA) has said if the small hotels drop prices then the large ones may have to follow. Around half the number of available hotel rooms are in small and unregistered locations.

The year before the industry did have an increase in numbers, due to Chinese tourists visiting in higher numbers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is trying to increase the number of Thais who visit the region. One initiative to boost tourism numbers was the Hansa Lanna in Rainy Season travel fair at Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center in Chiang Mai.

2.64 million foreign visitors is the TAT’s prediction to visit Chiang Mai, and among this number are expected to be 750,000 from China.
