Concierge Etiquette 101: What You Should and Shouldn’t Ask Your Hotel Concierge

Concierge services transited from royal palaces to hotel lobbies when hotels became common in western cities. Concierge services ensure that the guests have a pleasant stay at the hotel and get everything they need. However, due to the technological advancements like Uber and Google Maps, many guests are not taking advantage of the concierge services provided by hotels. As we want more hotel guests to utilize this valuable service, we asked some members of Concierge Anonymous, NYC’s underground guest services community, regarding what can and cannot be expected from concierge services provided by hotels. The following is the summary of their responses.

Guests can ask concierge to arrange services like booking tickets to a show, booking a table in a popular restaurant, and arrange for a romantic wedding proposal. However, they should not ask concierge for illegal services like buying drugs or finding a prostitute.
