When one does the counting you are sure to count about 1,400 Islands in Thailand and this makes it difficult to make a choice of which Island to visit. The author thought that on going to Phuket he could go over to Koh Phi Phi Island which was rumored to be a beautiful slice of paradise. But he was disappointed. People have visited the Island and caused the death of its beauty. This situation became so bad that last year the Thai government shut Maya Bay beach which was usually overcrowded and was featured in the movie, The Beach, which made it famous.
So on his second trip to Thailand, the author had a wish to find his own island that had not been destroyed by over tourism. That meant leaving the bustling parts of Phuket to find a little unknown Island named Koh Yao Noi. This island takes about thirty minutes from Phuket to reach and lies on the famous Phang Nga Bay. The Island has great contrasts to Phuket. The community here are not rowdy and are mostly muslims. One will never find a nightclub, queues, or much noise. The way of life is the traditional way which involves fishing and farming. But one thing that is fascinating is that there are quite a number of hotels that are high end and the author visited the newest of them all.
Key Takeaways:
“Koh Yao Noi doesn’t have nightclubs, queues or noise – the tightknit community has clung to its traditional way of life like fishing, and coconut farming.”
