Protecting Phuket’s image as a tourist destination

Going on vacation can get you arrested if you aren’t careful in Phuket. In an attempt to crack down on pesky fish feeders, recently a Russian tourist was arrested for feeding breadcrumb to fish at Koh Racha Rai in Phuket. While feeding fish may be harmful for the ecosystem of the fish and reef, making an example of this woman is not doing anything but simply making a mockery of the law. Perhaps time and money would be better spent by properly marking the area and educating tour guides or off-limit areas, so that well-intentioned tourists don’t end up being made an example of, as was the case in this embarrassing incident.
