A joint project has been proposed between Malaysia and Thailand linking the high speed railway lines between Bangkok – Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur – Singapore. The plans came out after a meeting on Thursday between Liow Tiong Lai, Malaysian Transport Minister, and Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Thai Transport Minister. Both sides have announced joint plans to connect rail and road transport between the two nations.
Both governments will assign committees to speed up drafting of memoranda of understanding on cooperation for mass transit and goods transport.
Two bridges will also be constructed, linking the border provinces of Narathiwat in Thailand and Kelantan in Malaysia. These will link Sugnaikolok to Rantau Panjang and Tak Bai to Pengkalan Kubor. Construction on this will begin next year.
