Accor Hotels announces more hotel expansion in Bangkok even though there is currently an oversupply of hotel rooms. Executives with the hotels chain say building new hotel properties is a good move as tourism to Thailand continues to increase with double digit growth every year since 2010. Visitors to Thailand are expected to be 20 million by 2020.
These new properties will add hundreds of rooms in Bangkok around the IBIS convention center which the chain feels is under-served even though there are currently more rooms than needed in the city. With the expected growth in tourism these new properties it is felt will attract tourists over the older properties that owned by locals. The newer properties will enable Accor to serve the growing demand and maintain it leading position in Thailand.
